VETERAN prop Adrian Morley has welcomed the fresh new look to the England Four Nations squad.
And he is looking forward to leading a young England side against Wales in his nation’s warm-up clash at Bridgend tomorrow (6.15).
Coach Tony Smith has overhauled his 24-man squad following a dismal display in last year’s World Cup, with many of his ‘young guns’ in action this weekend.
That includes hooker Scott Moore, who has earned his place on the back of an outstanding season with the Giants but is moving back to St Helens for 2010, but won’t feature Huddersfield prop Eorl Crabtree, who continues to recover from a minor knee operation.
Super League Young Player of the Year Sam Tomkins and runners-up Kyle Eastmond and Richie Myler have also been called-up, along with Ryan Hall and Sam Burgess.
They were in the England side that beat France 66-12 in Paris in June, and Morley can’t wait to play alongside them once again.
"It’s great we’ve got a bit of fresh blood there," said Morley
"Tony has been pretty ruthless in his selection, with the backs in particular, but if you look at how they performed in the World Cup, it’s not a total shock or surprise.
"They’ll admit themselves they didn’t play particularly well.
"I’m sure all the youngsters who get their chance this autumn will give an excellent account of themselves, and I’m excited about leading the team tomorrow.
"It will be a good test for everyone, and everyone’s looking forward to it."
There had been rumours that Huddersfield-born centre Keith Senior would be drafted back into the England squad, despite having announced his retirement from the international game at the start of the year.
That never materialised, but England chief Smith insists he has not closed the door on the other World Cup casualties.
"The door is never shut on anybody unless they retire or bow out of the game," he said.
