ROBBIE PAUL today warned one of his closest friends: "Watch out Stacey, I'm after you!"
In-form Giants ace Paul is ready to put sentiment to one side as he prepares to do battle with a Catalans Dragons side inspired by fellow New Zealander Stacey Jones at the Galpharm tomorrow (3.00).
The two Kiwi legends have been friends for over 25 years and grew up together in Auckland.
But with Paul desperate to see the Giants maintain their rich vein of form, he is determined to do what he can to keep dangerman Jones at bay.
And with both men also vying for a half-back spot in New Zealand's side to face Great Britain in a one-off Test at St Helens at the end of this month, Paul has warned the Dragons' main man not to expect a warm welcome.
"I've known Stacey since the age of five and I've played representative rugby alongside him from junior to international level," said Paul.
"It'll be nice to catch up with him at the end of the game, but he's going to have to watch out while it takes place!
"I'll be on him all game and intend to do whatever I can to put him off.
"That's vital, because if you let Stacey play, you know he'll kill you.
"He's still one of the greatest players in the game. He's fast, strong, has a great kicking game and has fantastic vision.
"I know I'll need to be at my very best to get the better of him, but I'm desperate to come out on top, not just for me but for the Giants ."
