HUDDERSFIELD Giants are to adopt a shirt-exchange scheme which was suggested by a supporter in an Examiner letter.

The fan, going under the name of `Claret and Gold', came up with the idea of supporters trading-in their old Huddersfield shirt and getting a discount on this year's new design.

It was an idea that struck a chord with the club, who have decided to act upon it.

"I am always interested to read the Examiner letter bag," said Giants general manager Richard Thewlis.

"And one letter, in particluar, from `Claret and Gold' contained an excellent suggestion for the club, which I am more than happy to implement.

"It is a stated goal of ours to turn the Galpharm stands into seas of claret and gold, with all proudly wearing the new University of Huddersfield replica shirts.

"With this in mind, `Claret and Gold' suggested a shirt amnesty whereby all `old' replicas can be brought in to gain a discount off the new shirts.

"The fan is right to point out that many such shirts are still seen on the streets of Huddersfield and, as such, anyone bringing one in to one of our shops (Galpharm Stadium or Town centre) a non-University-branded shirt can get a £5 discount off the new ones.

"In addition, all the shirts we collect will be donated to the Rugby League European fund to assist the development of the game overseas.

"I thank `Claret and Gold' for his suggestion and hope, like him, that the scheme is a success.

"Our 2006 claret and gold replica is already a record seller and I look forward to being able to report further sales as a result of this fan-led initiative."

The club are keen to stress, however, that this offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer and will expire on Sunday, February 19 at 3pm, when the Giants play their opening home Super League XI fixture against Warrington Wolves.
