BRETT HODGSON is confident the Giants can build on a magnificent 2009 and become even stronger in 2010.

Huddersfield’s Super League XIV campaign came to a bitterly disappointing end with Friday’s 16-6 home play-off defeat to Catalans Dragons.

Victory would have taken the Giants to within 80 minutes of the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.

A win would also have been Huddersfield’s first in the play-offs and added to a club record third-placed Super League finish and an appearance in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

And inspirational Giants skipper Hodgson admits the nature of the Dragons’ defeat has left a sour taste in the mouth, especially after the major highs earlier in the year.

“No-one obviously wanted to see our season finish the way it did on Friday,” he admitted.

“It was extremely disappointing, and it’s hard to say why we’ve struggled to put in a decent performance in the play-offs.

“But I’m sure those setbacks will make us even stronger next year. We don’t want a repeat of this!

“And we’ve also got some quality players joining us who’ll definitely make us even stronger.”
