DELIGHTED chairman Ken Davy believes the Giants are now in a position to step up to the next level.

His club were yesterday awarded a Super League franchise for the next three years.

That means the Giants can plan ahead without the threat of relegation in the short term.

And Davy believes that will be crucial in his dream of seeing Huddersfield break the West Yorkshire stranglehold of Leeds and Bradford.

“Being handed a Super League franchise is fantastic news,” said Davy.

“We were extremely confident in the strength of our bid, but we were absolutely delighted to receive confirmation.

“Our infrastructure, the steady increase in support, the quality of our facilities and our gradual on-field progress were all factors that helped us receive a licence.

“What’s still extremely disappointing, however, is that we have been unable to continue that progress on the field this season.

“But I am absolutely confident the appointment of Nathan Brown as our new coach (for next year) and the confirmation of our future Super League participation will re-ignite the enthusiasm and the progress we’ve all come to expect.

“We can now build with confidence and look to get on the same footing as Leeds and Bradford.”
