RUGBY stars left the training field for a day at university.

Half-a-dozen Huddersfield Giants stars swopped tries for trays when they sat down for a meal in the university's refectory with students on Monday

As well as having lunch with fans they also managed to fit in a quick visit to the Union building to chat with students eager to ask them questions.

The day was aimed at raising the profile of the Giants within the student population.

The University of Huddersfield is the current sponsor of the Huddersfield Giants.

Head of public relations at the university Phil Williams said it was an enjoyable day.

He said: "This is the one of the many links between the Giants and the University.

"The players seemed to really enjoy chatting to the students and the students enjoyed speaking to them.

"There was a good bit of banter in the union.

"It's good to raise the profile of the Giants among the students.

"Many students go to the games and we are hoping maybe a few more will now.

"The Giants will also be helping us out with a number of educational projects."
