GIANTS duo Eorl Crabtree and Stuart Jones were both among the scorers as England ran in 17 tries in a one-sided European Nations Cup showdown with Russia in Moscow.

The pair came off the bench to make their mark in the 98-4 win on a synthetic pitch at the Olympic Stadium, where just 1,000 watched.

England romped to a 46-0 lead by half-time and were 98-0 up when Russia finally scored in the 79th minute.

Hull's Gareth Raynor and Salford's Andy Coley both notched hat tricks.

London's Lee Greenwood, Salford's Luke Robinson and Warrington's Ben Westwood all touched down twice.

The other tries came from Wigan's Wayne Godwin and Hull duo Kirk Yeaman and Richard Whiting.

Godwin, who has just joined Wigan from Castleford, finished with 34 points after kicking 15 of his 17 conversion attempts.

Karl Harrison's team also had four tries disallowed as they missed out on beating their record 102-0 victory over the Russians at Bradford a year ago.

England, who today flew to Paris on Monday to prepare for Saturday's group decider with France in Avignon, emerged injury free.

Full-back Paul Reilly, the third Giants player in Harrison's squad, will hope for a chance in the Avignon clash after failing to make the cut for the Moscow mis-match.

Giants winger Hefin O'Hare was in the Wales team beaten 30-22 in their Nations Cup clash with Scotland in Glasgow.

Australia suffered a double blow ahead of Saturday's Gillette Tri-Nations clash against Great Britain in Manchester with the loss of captain Darren Lockyer and goalkicking second row Craig Fitzgibbon.

Lockyer may not play again in the series after aggravating an old rib cartilage injury in the Kangaroos' 32-12 win over New Zealand at Loftus Road on Saturday.

The stand-off winced in agony after scoring the all-important try which put his side back in front two minutes into the second half, and he missed the last 19 minutes of the match.

"He will be a massive loss," admitted pack leader Shane Webcke.

"We'll slot someone in there and he will do the job but you don't replace Darren Lockyer, you just find someone else to play there.

"If you lose someone of Darren Lockyer's calibre, you are certainly going to have a hole."

Lockyer, man of the match on Saturday, originally sustained the injury playing for Queensland in the State of Origin series.

"With Darren, it's a day-to-day proposition," said Australia's team doctor Hugh Hazard.

"He'll be off contact work for a week or two and we're keeping our fingers crossed."

Fitzgibbon, who missed the opening match against the Kiwis in Auckland with a shoulder injury, started Saturday's game but suffered damage to his other shoulder joint.

He will sit out Saturday's match at the City of Manchester Stadium but is expected to be fit in time for the rematch at the JJB Stadium in Wigan a fortnight later.
