HUDDERSFIELD Giants have attracted a new season-ticket holder – in Belfast!

Northern Ireland rugby league fan Nigel Killops has pledged to follow the Giants in Super League XIV by ordering his ‘Giants Revolution’ ticket over the phone.

Mad-keen Nigel, who has followed rugby league on television for around 15 years, has now decided to adopt the Giants as his team as a result of the club’s cut-price season-ticket offer.

When club chairman Ken Davy announced Giants season tickets would be slashed to prices from £80 for Super League XIV, it was hoped it would encourage new supporters to come on board.

That already seems the case, with record first-week sales of over 1,000, and with a high percentage of new season-ticket holders in that figure.

But so far, Nigel is the first to pledge his allegiance from overseas, and he was more than happy to oblige.

“I decided to come over here for a Giants game for the first time the other week for the fixture against St Helens,” said Nigel.

“That was a week after Ken Davy made his season-ticket announcement, and I then knew Huddersfield was the club for me.

“It’s a long way to travel but it was certainly worth it. I really enjoyed the Saints’ game and I’d like to make as many visits as possible next season, at least half a dozen.”

Nigel has purchased his seat for the Direct Golf Stand in 2009 and urged as many supporters as possible to take advantage of the offer.

“I think it’s a brilliant initiative and one that should prove very successful, particularly in the current economic climate,” he added.

“The ‘credit crunch’ is hitting everyone, and I think the Giants have shown the way forward with this offer. Prices are rising across the board in sport and this offer is to be admired.

“I’m now in the process of trying to persuade a couple of friends from Northern Ireland to join me, and I’m sure they would enjoy the Galpharm Stadium every bit as much as me.”

Marketing Manager James Brammer added: “We were delighted to hear Nigel has joined the Giants Revolution in 2009, even though he lives in Belfast.

“We are really pleased the Giants’ message is spreading and Nigel’s story is a great example of people taking advantage of the fantastic season-ticket offers for engage Super League XIV.

“In fact, we have had an enquiry from Sweden today so the momentum is gathering pace.”

Season tickets for 2009 are priced at £80 for existing holders and £95 for new holders, with the offer ending on Saturday, November 22.
