HUDDERSFIELD Giants’ Talentbuilder fund is urging supporters to commit to the ‘Walk to Wakefield’ next Saturday and help raise money for the club’s youth development programme.
With an Academy tour to Australia having been introduced for the very first time this year, the club have shown their commitment to bringing through the next generation of top-quality players.
And fans have been invited to join the 16-mile walk or alternatively sponsor one of the walkers (made up of players, parents, youth development staff and backroom staff) to help raise funds for the landmark trip.
“With the backing of the community we want to give a squad of young players the chance of a lifetime,” said Giants Player Performance Manager Pete Riding.
“Our young players will be working hard on and off the field to have this fantastic opportunity. This will include taking bucket collections, packing bags in supermarkets and walking to Wakefield to help raise funds.
“I really hope everyone gets behind their efforts.”
Supporters who wish to take part in the 16-mile ‘Walk to Wakefield’ or donate sponsorship money to the walkers must contact the Giants in advance, with sponsorship forms available by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject of the message ‘Walk to Wakefield’.
Huddersfield’s trip to Wakefield is their shortest of the season and is always a popular fixture among Giants fans.
The club’s longer journeys are also popular, with many taking advantage of the Vice Presidents’ trips organised by Stuart Greaves.
In fact, Stuart reports he already has a record number booked for this season’s trip to the south of France for the game against Catalans Dragons on September 4.
So far 104 have signed up, which smashes the previous best of 76 with seven months still to go!
On top of that, 49 are on the tour to Harlequins on March 20 and over 30 have put their names down for the trip to Edinburgh for the Magic Weekend of May 1 and 2. The price for the trip north is just £250 for three nights in a four-star country hotel!
Stuart has also organised a day-trip to Wrexham for the game against Crusaders the week before. A full English breakfast and return coach trip is just £20.
“Our trips are proving more popular than ever and that popularity appears to be growing all the time,” said Stuart.
