BIG Darrell Griffin believes the fact he has been handed a first-choice forward shirt for Super League XIV will count for nothing when the season gets under way.
The 27-year-old prop was last season handed the No18 shirt.
But in 2009 he has been ‘promoted’ to No10 in the Giants’ squad number list.
That suggests Griffin and Eorl Crabtree (No8) are at the top of the pecking order when it comes to the club’s props.
But Griffin doesn’t go along with that, and believes fellow front-row forwards Paul Jackson, Michael Korkidas and Keith Mason deserve equal billing.
“We’ve got five very well-established props at the club, and I don’t think there’s much between any of us,” said Griffin.
“I certainly don’t feel I’m at the top of any so-called ‘pecking order’ just because I’ve got one of the first-choice shirt numbers.
“Any one of us could have that number, and could do a great job wearing it.
“As far as I’m concerned we all start off equal, and all five of us are involved in a battle top get a place in the starting line-up.
“And I think that’s the way it should be.
“If I am lucky enough to get the nod to start the game at Catalans Dragons next Saturday, I know that if I don’t perform I might not be involved against St Helens the following week.
“That’s obviously great for helping you try and perform to your best week in, week out. No-one likes being dropped.”
