COACH Jon Sharp is relishing the chance to see his Giants lock horns with his former club St Helens in tonight's Super League X clash at Knowsley Road.

Huddersfield's strong finish in Sunday's 36-28 home defeat to Hull has put Sharp's players in a positive mood for the trip.

And he is hoping to see that upbeat attitude reflected in tonight's display (8.00).

"The boys are really excited and looking forward to the game," said Sharp, who spent two years as assistant coach to Ian Millward at St Helens in 2002 and 2003.

"We were obviously very disappointed and frustrated with the start we made against Hull, but there were so many positives from our second-half performance that we can't wait for tonight.

"We're looking in pretty good shape - the match against Hull was quick rather than being tough - and the boys are determined to put on a show."

But Sharp has again warned his players that only their very best will be good enough.

"We did struggle against Saints last season and put this coach in his place," he admitted.

"Unfortunately, we've always seemed to play them on the back of touch-ups and we've suffered the consequences.

"Once again, we're meeting St Helens on the back of a defeat for them, this time at Leeds.

"I also feel that because I'm a former member of the coaching staff there they do raise the bar a little when I'm facing them.

"St Helens are a highly motivated side and they will not have budgeted for a defeat against Huddersfield Giants. We have to make sure we can disrupt those plans if at all possible. And we are feeling good right now."
