GIANTS coach Nathan Brown has ordered his players to meet fire with fire in tonight’s potentially explosive Super League XV clash against Catalans Dragons at the Galpharm Stadium (7.00).
The French are regarded as one of the most physical sides in the competition, and that proved a key to their 16-6 play-off success over Huddersfield last September.
The Giants are boosted by the return of prop Keith Mason, who is tailor-made for a contest of this nature.
And after Brown accused some of his players of looking to blame the referee for their 24-6 home defeat against St Helens last Sunday, the Galpharm chief won’t allow his players to find any excuses if they fail to deliver tonight.
“Catalans will present us with a massive challenge – literally – tonight,” said Brown.
“They definitely play a physical brand of footy, which you’d expect from such big boys. I’m pleased to be watching it from the stands!
“But I don’t expect this physical presence or anything else to be used as an excuse.
“Although Catalans do like to play it tough, we have the players to match it, and it’s good to have someone like Keith Mason back from injury (he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the opening game of the season) for a match like this.
“After their excellent win over Hull KR last week, they’ll come here with confidence and we’ve got to be ready for them.”
