BEN ROARTY, Paul Reilly and Stuart Jones have emerged as the main winners in the Giants player of the year awards.

In a break from the traditional end-of-season slot, the Flyers' 15th annual player presentation was held last night at the Galpharm Stadium as part of the countdown to the new campaign.

And all three of the main winners are expected to feature heavily in Super League X, which for the Giants kicks-off with the trip to newly-promoted Leigh Centurions on Saturday, February 12 (6.05) in front of the Sky TV cameras.

Leading the way was Australian back-rower Roarty, who was named the Giants' Player of the Year.

A rib cartilage injury meant the 27-year-old missed the Giants' end-of-season run-in, but he still made 26 appearances - even though he had also been struggling with a shoulder injury which required surgery at the end of the campaign!

Full-back Reilly picked up the club's Players' Player of the Year award to mark an outstanding 2004 for the popular Huddersfield-born star.

The 28-year-old, who began his rugby league career at Moldgreen, made 25 senior appearances, but he will be remembered most for his exploits with England in the European Nations Cup in the autumn.

His crowning glory came in the final when he picked up the man-of-the-match award for his performance in the win over Ireland.

Another senior accolade went to Jones who, ironically, was named the Squadbuilder Man of Steel, an award given to the player deemed to have made the most impact in the first-team squad.

The irony is that the former St Helens star was able to sign for the club as part of the Squadbuilder Fund.

But the fact he played in every League and Cup game in the pack and earned a place in the England European Nations Cup squad made him an obvious Man of Steel choice.

The other candidates for the award were James Evans - the winner of the Junior Giants Player of the Year - Reilly, Roarty and Eorl Crabtree, the Giants' third player to represent England in the European Nations Cup.

There was also an award for Paul White, whose matchwinning try and then last-minute incredible trysaving tackle which helped give the Giants victory in the final game of the season against Salford was ruled as the `champagne moment' of the season.

The Senior Academy Player of the Year was prop Jon Gledhill and the Junior Academy Player of the Year was Glenn Holdsworth.
