HUDDERSFIELD’S Reserve and Academy sides will be looking for a change of fortune this weekend.

After they both suffered defeat at Warrington in their last League outings, they return to action tomorrow after a week’s break due to the Magic Weekend.

Coach Paul Cook’s second string should be confident of collecting a fourth win of the campaign at home to Celtic Crusaders at the YMCA (2.00), while Darren Fleary’s youngsters could secure their first success of the season at Widnes Vikings.

But the task for the Reserves may not be as straightforward as they would normally hope.

At the heart of their successes this season have been the likes of captain Keal Carlile, Josh Griffin, Tom Hemingway and Larne Patrick.

That form, of course, has earned them spots in Sunday’s Challenge Cup home clash against Rochdale Hornets. But Cook is remaining philosophical.

“When you’re the Reserve Team coach you always know that the better your players play, the greater the risk of losing them,” he said.

“And that’s what’s happening this weekend, although I’m obviously delighted for them.

“It’ll be good to see how they perform in the senior side, and it will also give me the chance to play some of my fringe Reserve players and see how they fare.”
