HUDDERSFIELD Giants will be fielding a strong squad in tomorrow’s inaugural Carnegie Nines at Headingley.

Caretaker coaches Paul Anderson and Kieron Purtill have yet to announce their line-up.

That will be finalised after training today when a final injury check is taken.

But Anderson hinted last week that the Giants will be taking the event very seriously.

And the fact there will be fitness tests on senior players would appear to back that up.

“I know how desperate the players and coaches are to do well in this event,” said Giants marketing chief James Brammer.

“Everyone is taking it very seriously, and we’ll definitely be going there to give it our best shot.

“As a club, we’re fully behind the Nines concept and we’re delighted to be competing in the first event.

“Obviously, the best way of showing our support is to field a strong squad.”

And the Giants will be guaranteed a massive test in their opening game.

They take on hosts Leeds, who have already named their 13-man squad, including nine players who have featured in Super League this year.

Top of the list is Jordan Tansey, who made his 50th appearance for the Rhinos in their 52-16 win over Wigan last Friday, while French Test ace Eric Anselme is another big name involved..

The squad is to be captained by Simon Worrall and young stars Ben Jones-Bishop, Kallum Watkins, Danny Allan and Ben Kaye are also included.
