UPBEAT Huddersfield Giants officials are looking to smash the five-figure barrier for Sunday's Super League clash against leaders St Helens at the Galpharm.

The Giants were delighted with the crowd of 8,104 for the opening home game against Warrington Wolves on February 19.

But hopes are high that this figure can easily be beaten this weekend and an attendance of over 10,000 will be recorded.

The club have taken a number of steps to encourage as many fans as possible to turn up, with general manager Richard Thewlis having offered a special invitation to rugby league supporters throughout West Yorkshire to come to the game.

"Our game on Sunday is the only Super League fixture taking place in the county," he said.

"So we are offering season-ticket holders from the other four West Yorkshire clubs - Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Castleford - the chance to watch our game for £10.

"Furthermore, any supporters will be able to secure free admission for children under the age of 12.

"I came up with the idea when I went to see Castleford take on Les Catalans last Sunday.

"I saw at least six Giants fans at the game, who simply wanted to be at a game on Sunday afternoon.

"And I'm sure there are fans from other clubs who feel the same way.

"This offer is a way of making it more affordable to them.

"But we're obviously also looking to attract a lot of fans from the Huddersfield area, with the hope our season-ticket holders will take advantage of our `Friend for a Fiver' scheme.

"This match against Saints has all the makings of a cracking encounter, and the more fans we have backing the boys, the better!"
