TRIUMPHANT Giants coach Nathan Brown is confident yesterday’s stunning 54-6 Super League win at Wakefield will be no false dawn.

Huddersfield rediscovered their top early-season form to destroy their hosts and record their biggest away win in Super League.

It was just a second League victory in their last five top-flight fixtures and moved the Giants back up to fourth in the League standings.

Yesterday’s stunning 10-try triumph over Trinity also helped erase the bitter memory of last week’s shock home defeat to Salford and puts Huddersfield in excellent heart ahead of Sunday’s big home Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final clash against Castleford Tigers.

And Brown is delighted his side will be going into that contest with some solid momentum.

“Most clubs go through a slight dip during a season, and let’s hope we’ve now come out of ours,” said Brown.

“But I’m confident we have.

“Our training has always been designed for us to come good around Challenge Cup quarter-final time, which is where we are now.

“So we obviously hope to build on this Wakefield win and make sure we continue from where we left off when we’re up against Castleford.”

Winger David Hodgson led the way with his second hat trick of the year as the Giants secured their biggest win of the season.

And Brown believed it was his side’s early defensive work which paved the way for the win.

“We discovered a lot of resolve in defence,” he added.

“Wakefield can score points and a lot of penalties went their way early in the game.

“To defend the way we did and finish them off in the second half was really pleasing.

“One to 17 contributed really well. I don’t think there was anyone who didn’t come up with something positive.”
