HUDDERSFIELD Giants have been thinking about pads not points as they bid to maintain their Super League momentum despite a weekend off.

The Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals – the Galpharm hosts St Helens v Bradford tomorrow while Wigan face Catalans at Warrington on Sunday – mean the only league match is Sunday’s rearranged Hull v Warrington fixture.

Having climbed a place to eighth as a result of Wigan being docked four points for breaching the salary cap, the Giants will hope basement side Salford can win at Hull, who are in sixth place and just a point better off.

But football manager Stuart Sheard, who watched the Giants players work out at Rawthorpe Amateur Boxing Club yesterday, insists the focus is on their own run-in, starting at home to Catalans on Sunday week.

“With two wins from two, our priority is making it three,” he said.

“It’s about trying to keep the lads keyed up and fresh, and the boxing training is great for fitness but also something a little bit different, and the lads really enjoyed it.”

The Junior Academy game against St Helens at Moldgreen has been switched from tomorrow to Sunday (11.30).
