EXCITED Giants supremo Ralph Rimmer believes Huddersfield should be braced for a big bout of Challenge Cup fever!

Victory over York City Knights in Sunday's McAlpine clash (3.00) would take the Giants into the semi-final of the competition for the first time in 33 years.

Reaching the last four would obviously provide the Giants with a massive boost.

But with the McAlpine having made itself available to stage a non-Giants semi-final, the town could be a central figure in both eagerly-awaited encounters.

The first last-four clash will be on Sunday, April 18, with the second semi-final seven days later.

The draw will be held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff - the venue for this year's final - next Tuesday and will be broadcast on Radio Five Live at 7pm.

And chief executive Rimmer is hoping Huddersfield will have a direct interest in both ties.

"This is an exciting time to be a follower of rugby league in the town," said Rimmer, whose hopes of staging a tie at the McAlpine could still be dashed if there is an all-Lancashire semi-final.

"There's nothing to beat a good Cup run and be at the very centre of the semi-final action, and Huddersfield could be in the mix on both fronts.

"Obviously the No1 priority is seeing the Giants get into the semi-final for the first time in over three decades.

"To do that we have to beat York on Sunday, which clearly makes this tie massive for us.

"There's already a tremendous feelgood factor around the stadium and around the town because of the start we've made to Super League, as well as our Challenge Cup run.

"We want to ride this wave for as long as possible, and I know victory over York on Sunday and then waiting to hear the semi-final draw on Tuesday will lift the excitement levels."

Giants officials have again lowered prices to encourage a bumper Huddersfield following this weekend.

Advanced ticket prices are £12 adults, £7 concessions and £1 children, and are on sale at the Giants McAlpine office.

And Rimmer has again stressed the importance of having a big turn-out.

"All the players have said how big a lift the Giants fans gave them during the Bulls match on Sunday," added Rimmer.

"To know they had around 5,000 Huddersfield fans behind them was a massive source of motivation, and I know they would relish a big home crowd again on Sunday.

"Even though we are red-hot favourites to reach the semi-final we simply can't afford to leave anything to chance.

"This match is one of the biggest this club has played in for years."
