Halifax have been handed an explosive fixture in the inaugural Summer Bash in Blackpool.

Coach Richard Marshall’s men will face West Yorkshire rivals Bradford Bulls to bring the curtain down on the opening day of a full round of Kingstone Press Championship fixtures to be staged at Bloomfield Road over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (May 23 and 24).

Both clubs are former heavyweights of Super League, with the Bulls relegated at the end of last season.

And with the traditional rivals desperate to secure a return to the top-flight, their match-up promises to be one of the weekend’s highlights.

The Summer Bash, which is the Championship’s answer to Super League’s Magic Weekend, will also include the first final of the new League 1 Cup, which will kick-off the action on the Saturday (May 23).

Rugby Football League chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer said: “The Summer Bash is a tremendous addition to the new-look Championship and I am sure rugby league fans everywhere will embrace the event and take the opportunity to spend a weekend at a venue which has a rich tradition of creating fantastic memories for the sport.”

Saturday’s Summer Bash fixtures are: League 1 Cup Final (noon). Workington v Whitehaven (2.30), London Broncos v Sheffield Eagles (4.45), Bradford v Halifax (7.00).

Sunday: Dewsbury v Batley (12.45), Doncaster v Hunslet (3.00), Leigh v Featherstone (5.15).
