Halifax RLFC head coach Karl Harrison has moved to boost his options with the signing of half back Danny Yates.

The 21-year-old has signed a short term contract and is expected to feature for Halifax’s Under 20 team this week.

“Danny is a typically bossy half back,” said Harrison.

“We will take a look at him, we will play him in our Under 20 side at the weekend, and then go from there.

“But he has trained very well and he has certainly got some ability.”

Yates began his career with St Helens as a junior, but joins The Shay squad after a spell with French side Union Treiziste Catalane.

While with Saints Yates had a dual-registration spell with Rochdale Hornets last season and in seven games bagged six tries.

And Harrison is in buoyant mood after his side’s 28-14 away win at Keighley Cougars.

“We showed great character and you can see the effort is there,” said Harrison.

“The desire to win is there and the players work ever so hard for each other.

“We’ve not found much fluency and consistency over the first half of the season, but we’re starting the second half of the year now in a decent position and hopefully we can find that over the next few months.”
