DAVID HODGSON is back in action for the Giants in Sunday’s home Challenge Cup clash against Catalan Dragons (3.00).

The former England winger produced a strong try scoring display in his side’s 28-18 fourth-round Cup triumph at Batley 11 days ago.

But he was left out of the side that secured the impressive 40-18 Super League victory over St Helens at the Galpharm last Saturday.

But with rising star Joe Wardle sitting out this weekend’s contest with a slight hamstring strain, Hodgson has been given the nod to step in.

He could have faced competition for the spot from Australian utility back Jamie Simpson.

But with the former South Sydney man needing a scan on a shoulder injury, Hodgson was the automatic choice.

“We know Dave will come in and do a good job for us,” said Brown.

“He’s always been a very consistent performer and we sure we’ll see that again this weekend.

“It’s good that we’ve got someone of this sort of quality waiting to come.

“And had Jamie Simpson been available, competition would have been even stronger.

“But Jamie’s not going good at the moment.

“He’s having a scan on his shoulder in the next couple of days, and we’ll know a lot more after that.

“Hopefully, the news will be positive.”

Changes to the pack are also expected to be kept to a minimum, although fit-again prop Keith Mason could be in contention after returning to full training after a serious knee injury.
