Huddersfield Giants suffered just their fourth defeat of the Super League XVIII season with a convincing home defeat at the hands of Warrington Wolves.

The Giants may have gone into the contest second in the table and Warrington third, but the visitors looked by far the better team throughout as they closed  the gap on Huddersfield to one point.

The damage was done in the opening 40 minutes as the Wolves opened up a 22-6 interval advantage.

Althougn the Giants made the perfect start with a Jermaine McGillvary try and Danny Brough goal after three minutes, Warrington proved the dominant force.

Trent Waterhouse (twice), Micky Higham and Stefan Ratchford crossed for tries, and  former Giants captain Brett Hodgson added three goals to underline their supremacy, while the Giants' frustration was summed up when Brough was sin-binned for dissent on the stroke of half-time.

Further Warrington tries from Hodgson and Ryan Atkins kept them in control after the break, although there was a special moments for the home side with 17-year-old Kruise Leeming scoring a try with his first touch at Super League level.
