ASSISTANT coach Paul Anderson has hit back at criticism there are too many playmakers in the Giants’ Super League line-up.

Huddersfield face Crusaders at the Galpharm on Sunday aiming to bounce back from a miserable 44-18 defeat at Castleford Tigers.

With several frontline forwards missing through injury that day, the Giants had a 17 which featuring the likes of Kevin Brown, Luke Robinson, Brad Drew, Shaun Lunt, Danny Brough and David Faiumu, who are all established half-backs or hookers.

But Anderson has dismissed claims that created an imbalance.

"The team that goes out there every weekend is the team we believe is good enough to beat the opposition, and that will be the case again on Sunday," he said.

"There’s no confusion over the roles people play, they understand what’s expected of them. Against Castleford, the problem was a lack of execution and patience, not players treading on each other’s toes, which some people are trying to imply.

"Unfortunately, injuries to a number of our experienced forwards have not helped us and that’s meant several players have been forced out of position.

"But, as a group, we don’t believe there’s a problem with the make-up of the side. People are looking to find a problem that’s not there.

"This remains a very happy and settled camp, it’s just we need to keep on improving generally and try and become more consistent."

Prop Keith Mason has been ruled out with a scar-tissue problem and joins Andy Raleigh (neck), David Fa’alogo (hamstring) and Martin Aspinwall (groin) on the sidelines.

But fellow prop Eorl Crabtree resumes after an ankle injury, while back-rower Stephen Wild is also back in contention (hamstring).
