MARTIN ASPINWALL will look to celebrate a major personal landmark by helping the Giants secure victory over Harlequins in tomorrow’s Sky-televised Super League clash at The Stoop (5.45).

The 28-year-old former Great Britain winger will make his 200th appearance as Huddersfield bid to build on last week’s 26-20 home triumph over champions Leeds and their 52-0 win at Wakefield in their last away game the week before.

Aspinwall was in excellent form in both games, with his second-half try against Leeds helping to seal the win, and it also showed how well he is developing in a new back-row role which began in the League clash at Quins in July last year.

And he is looking forward to returning to the capital and making an even bigger impact in the Giants pack.

“I can’t wait for tomorrow for so many reasons,” said the in-form ex-Wigan threequarter.

“First and foremost, it’s the chance to build on last week’s excellent victory over Leeds.

“But it’ll also be my 200th game, which I’m absolutely delighted about.

“I remember my first game was for Wigan against Huddersfield at the Galpharm in 2001, and I never thought at the time I’d end up moving from the wing to loose-forward.

“But that’s exactly what I’ve done, and I’m really excited about playing there at Quins this weekend.

“I remember going there last July ready to play in the back row for the first time, and wondering how I’d go on.

“And, personally, it was a bit of an eye-opener.

“I came off the bench and was absolutely shattered after just 10 minutes. I think I lasted about 20 minutes altogether, and that was more than enough!

“But now I feel far more comfortable, and I’ll be looking to show that on my next trip to London this weekend. It’ll be a good gauge of how far I’ve come in the position.”But while Aspinwall is keen to test himself in his new position once again, he knows the priority is helping the Giants string a good run together.

“One thing Browny is keen for us to be this season is consistent, and that’s a challenge we’re determined to pass,” he added.

“For the first couple of weeks, it was a case of win one, lose one, which was hardly the mark of a consistent side!

“But now we’ve got the chance this weekend to make it three wins on the trot to set us up nicely for the Easter programme that’s fast approaching.

“The wins over Leeds and Wakefield have added to our confidence, but it really wouldn’t be much good beating Leeds and then going down to Quins and losing.

“Browny has been taking steps to make sure that doesn’t happen, and we know how upset he’d be if it did!”
