Huddersfield Giants forward Brett Ferres has been given a five-match ban after being found guilty of a Grade E  dangerous throw on St Helens player Jonny Lomax in their 17-16 Chaalnge Cup defeat at home on Sunday.

England player Ferres was sent off for the tackle in the Giants’ defeat and the 27-year-old, who pleaded guilty at a Rugby Football League disciplinary tribunal last night, has also been fined £300.

Second-row Ferres has been an ever-present for Huddersfield this season.

With Ferres ruled out, it could leave the way clear for fellow back-row forward Ukuma Ta’ai to feature again.

The Tonga World Cup star wasn’t included in the 17 that faced Saints, but he was in the 19-man squad.

He was also included in the initial 19-man squad for tomorrow’s trip to Hull FC that featured Ferres, which suggests he has more of a chance of regaining a spot at the KC Stadium.

And this could be the only potential change, with head coach Paul Anderson having named the same 19 for the second successive game.
