HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS were counting the heavy cost of last night’s tough 14-6 Super League XV defeat at Hull FC.

Coach Nathan Brown’s men were forced to travel to the KC Stadium without inspirational captain Brett Hodgson, who picked up a back injury in training and failed a fitness test on the morning of the game.

Now they are also facing the prospect of being without Shaun Lunt for at least a month after he suffered a suspected broken wrist just before half-time.

The 22-year-old hooker was undergoing tests this morning to assess the full extent of the damage.

However, coach Brown is already resigned to being without one of his main strike players for next Sunday’s trip to Hull KR.

After a night when things just weren’t going their way Giants coach Brown said: “Losing Brett so late in the day and then Shaun during the game was a big blow, but it wasn’t the reason we lost.

“I thought our effort was outstanding throughout and we played reasonably well at times.

“But our execution let us down and against a side like Hull you cannot afford to make mistakes or fail to take your chances.

“It obvious disappointing to lose, but there were definitely more than enough signs to suggest both ourselves and Hull could do well this season.”
