GIANTS captain Chris Thorman believes the players should shoulder the blame for Saturdays 48-0 Super League capitulation at Catalans Dragons.
Pressure is once again mounting on Galpharm chief Jon Sharp, with many fans calling for him to quit in the wake of a 10th defeat from 15 top-flight starts.
Goalkicking utility back Thorman admits the latest reverse in the South of France was the low point of the season.
And while he has 100% sympathy for the fans who made the 900-mile trip to Perpignan to watch their team under-perform, Thorman also feels Sharp deserved much better from his players.
I totally understand the fans frustrations and, on behalf of the players, I would like to apologise for the way we played in France, said Thorman, whose side are third bottom of Super League.
What we dished up simply wasnt good enough. So many people paid a lot of hard-earned cash to watch the game and they deserved a great deal more.
Its not nice receiving heavy criticism from the supporters, particularly when we were hurting so much from losing in the manner we did anyway, but I can understand how they are feeling.
But Im afraid this is part and parcel of being a professional sportsman. You have to take the rough with the smooth.
Its at times like this that we, as players, need to take collective responsibility for our actions. We just have to hold up our hands, admit we werent good enough and cop the flak that comes our way.
We know we let the fans down, and we also know we let the coaching staff down.
These are tough times for Jon personally, and we certainly didnt give him much help with the way we played!
Theres really only so much Jon can do. He can only help us up to a certain point, because as soon as we get onto the field its totally down to us. Jon wasnt the one making the numerous basic errors and giving away the needless penalties last Saturday night.
Ive no doubt that if we had produced the level of performance that is acceptable, we would have been there or thereabouts.
Jon is pretty much the most hard-working coach Ive ever known, and he spends an incredible amount of time working with the team and working with individual players to help us improve.
