Danny Brough has called on the Huddersfield Giants pack to make sure he wins his mouth-watering half-back duel with Rangi Chase.
Huddersfield are red-hot favourites to beat Salford Reds Devils at the John Smith’s Stadium this afternoon (3.00) and make it 10 wins out of their last 11 Super League games.
At the heart of the battle will be the clash between reigning Man of Steel Brough and 2012 Man of Steel Chase.
And in-form Giants skipper Brough knows it’s up to his forwards to make sure he gains the upper midfield hand and can put the finishing touches to a fifth top-flight triumph on the trot.
“Salford are a strong team and they could prove to be a tough team to break down,” said the 31-year-old goalkicking half-back, who missed out to Chase for a place in England’s World Cup squad.
“Any team who plays them has to keep their eye on Rangi Chase and, normally, when the pack goes well, Rangi tends to follow on the back of it.
“We’ll have to be smart in what we do this afternoon and try and keep a lid on him.
“That means it’s up to our pack to make sure they get straight onto the front foot. If they do that, then that gives the backs more of a chance to play.
“The battle in the pack is absolutely vital, and I obviously know we have the players capable of making sure that’s a battle we win.”
And Brough is keen to see his side build on last week’s hard-fought 26-22 triumph at Hull KR.
“That’s always a tough place to go, so it was a good win,” he added.
“I thought the lads knuckled down, we worked really well and we got the job done.
“There’s always room for improvement in our game and, as a group, it is something we’re looking forward to doing. That being said, we currently have nine wins from 10 outings, which is something I personally would take.
“But I’m determined to make sure it’s 10 out of 11 after today.”
