HUDDERSFIELD Giants captain Kevin Brown will miss this weekend’s Super League clash against the club he is joining next season.

The 27-year-old Huddersfield captain has been handed a one-match ban after submitting an early guilty plea when charged with making a Grade B reckless high tackle on Salford’s Adam Sidlow during Magic Weekend.

And that rules the loose-forward out of Sunday’s Super League trip to Widnes Vikings as the Giants look to end a run of three successive top-flight losses.

The incident took place in the last minute of Huddersfield’s shock 38-34 defeat at the Etihad.

Widnes skipper Jon Clarke will also miss Sunday’s game after admitting a dangerous throw on Warrington centre Matty Blythe during his side’s 68-4 defeat by the Wolves in Manchester.

Clarke and Brown were eligible to submit early-guilty pleas to the grade B offences as they hadn’t been charged for any other offence in the previous 12 months.

Had Brown been cleared to play, his appearance would have been a big talking point, with him joining Widnes on a four-year deal from the start of next season.

“It would have been strange coming up against a club I’ve signed for next season,” said Brown. “But the bigger picture is that we’ve got to win on Sunday after suffering three straight League defeats for the first time this season.

“Some of the stuff we served up against Salford last weekend was embarrassing, so I really hope we can go and stuff Widnes.

“It’s just a massive shame I can’t be out there with the rest of the boys helping us to try and do it.”
