Jake Connor intends to make the most of being handed a second chance with the Giants in 2015.

Less than two months after being told his season could be over after picking up a knee injury playing on dual-registration with Oldham, the 20-year-old is setting his sights on Grand Final glory.

The talented centre has featured in the last three Super 8s fixtures as the Giants beat St Helens, Castleford and Catalans to strengthen their bid for a top-four finish and a play-off semi-final spot.

Connor marked his 14th appearance of the season by finishing off a wonderful team move during the Giants’ 40-26 home triumph over the Tigers. The result means a win at home to Warrington on Sunday would secure Huddersfield a semi-final place with two fixtures remaining, with Connor admitting he’d love to be involved in the game.

“A couple of months ago, I thought my chances of playing in games like these had gone for the year,” revealed Connor. “I picked up my injury playing for Oldham and there were fears I’d done some serious damage to my knee ligaments and that my season might be over.

“But two months later, the knee’s fine and I feel like I’ve been handed a second chance. Since I came back into the side, I’ve been involved in three Super 8s wins and, all being well, I’ll be involved again against Warrington at the weekend.

“I’ve felt more comfortable in each game I’ve played, and that’s because you thrive off playing consistently.

“I know I’m going to have to play well and work hard to keep hold of my spot, but the chance of playing in the massive games we could be involved in would spur on anyone to want to do better.”
