GIANTS chairman Ken Davy is hoping Eorl Crabtree can mark a big year with a big performance against champions Leeds Rhinos at the Galpharm Stadium tomorrow.
The 27-year-old, left, has been at the heart of Huddersfield’s success over the past decade and is now celebrating a deserved testimonial.
During that 10-year period, Crabtree has been involved in some big battles with the Rhinos, including the Giants’ Challenge Cup semi-final triumph at Odsal in 2006.
And Davy is hoping the front-row forward is able to celebrate such a big year with a match-winning performance against the men from Headingley.
“Eorl has been a tremendous asset to Huddersfield Giants over a number of years, and I would be as delighted as anyone if he could lead us to victory over the Rhinos this weekend,” said Davy.
“I remember Eorl as a youngster when he first came to the club, because it wasn’t that long after I’d taken over.
“During that time I’ve seen the way he has grown as a player to now become one of the best prop forwards in the game.
“As a result, I was absolutely delighted when he was granted a testimonial, and I’ll be absolutely delighted if he can hit his very best form this weekend to help us beat the Super League champions.
“To be honest, I believe there’s no better sight in rugby league than seeing Eorl in full flight.
“When he comes off the bench, he always lifts the crowd and has this incredible ability to offload the ball in the tackle. A match like this weekend’s is tailor-made for him.”
