Ken Davy knows how vital a role the fans can play in helping him fulfil his dream of seeing the Giants lift the Super League trophy and Challenge Cup.

During his 19 years at the helm, one of the chairman’s big achievements is to have seen the club’s season-ticket base increase seven-fold.

That figure failed to increase last season, despite the Giants having lifted the Super League Leaders’ Shield at the end of the 2013 campaign.

And while season-ticket sales for 2015 have so far been encouraging – the hope is to reach around the 5,000 mark – Giants owner Davy is confident they can increase significantly this week, with the early bird discount offers ending at noon on Saturday (November 29).

“I can’t stress enough the importance of season-ticket sales to our club,” said Davy.

“We have not yet reached the level where we need to be to be financially viable or sustain a top-four Super League challenge. It is very difficult when competing against the likes of Leeds, Wigan, St Helens and Warrington, who can all regularly attract 10,000-plus crowds, while we’re also struggling to match clubs such as the two Hull sides and Castleford when it comes to season-ticket sales.

“So much of a club’s success is often put down to the roles played by the coaching staff and players, but I regard the role of the season-ticket holders as being just as important.

“It’s like a three-legged stool. It’s strong when the legs (coaches, players and supporters) are together, but take one of those legs away and the stool collapses.

“I know it’s difficult for fans to get to every home game – even my wife Jennifer and myself struggle to do that – but getting a season ticket is the biggest pledge you can make to your club and the by far the most effective way of expressing you support to your club.

“Our season-ticket holders know that if, and when, we do win our next piece of silverware, they will have played their part in making that possible. That should never be forgotten.”
