HUDDERSFIELD Giants put their season firmly back on track with a sixth round Challenge Cup victory that removed holders Leeds Rhinos from the competition.

After winning the prize for the last two seasons, the Rhinos were bundled out of the competition at the first time of asking this time round as they went down 36-22 against the Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Delighted assistant coach Kieron Purtill said: “This was a thoroughly deserved win and the mood in the camp is obviously very positive.

“Our response to conceding an early try to Leeds was magnificent.

“Then we went on to complete our sets at 100 per cent in the first half after that.

“And that paved the way for this win after we went in well ahead.

“We can now look forward to tomorrow’s draw (Sunday) and in a very positive mood after the form we have been showing over the past month.

“On top of that we have also come through in pretty decent shape in terms of injuries.”
