CAUTIOUS Nathan Brown feels the tough Super League scrap at London Broncos earlier in the season is a sign Sunday’s home Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final clash can’t be taken for granted.

Although Huddersfield are still smarting after their 27-20 defeat at Catalan Dragons on Saturday, they still remain joint leaders at the halfway stage of the season.

In contrast, the Broncos are struggling at the foot of the table, with just two wins from their opening 13 top-flight fixtures. They also threw a 16-point lead in losing at home to Bradford Bulls on Sunday.

But the Giants were made to work hard to secure their 30-16 triumph in the capital back in late February, and that’s something Galpharm chief Brown will be emphasising throughout this week.

“We’re favourites to win this tie and reach the semis, we know that,” said Brown, pictured.

“But that in itself can be a danger.

“We’ve just come off a very hard game in Catalan and we know London will come here at the weekend feeling they’ve got nothing to lose. We’ve got to be ready for that, which I’m sure we will.

“Our players who played down there in the League game earlier in the year all said how tough the game was.

“Kaufusi and a few of those blokes really hooked in and made it hard.

“It was only by getting a try or two late on did we get the win by a couple of scores, so we know it’s not going to be easy on Sunday.

“London have struggled on the road this season, that can’t be denied, but we’ve seen what they can do if you let them play, which is something you can’t ignore.

“This week we’re preparing ourselves for a really tough game. If not, that’s when you can slip up. We don’t want to do that, because the prize at the end of it is so big.”
