HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS chief Paul Anderson was this morning taking a check on the fitness of his England trio as the countdown to next Sunday’s home Super League XVIII clash against Leeds Rhinos got under way.

Centre Leroy Cudjoe, prop Eorl Crabtree and back-rower Brett Ferres were all part of the national side that last night secured a 30-10 Origin triumph over the Exiles at Warrington.

Cudjoe played the full game and crowned a rock-solid display with two tries, while Crabtree played 40 minutes and Ferres 48 minutes.

The initial signs suggest all three came through the contest unscathed, with Anderson obviously keen to find out for himself.

“All three did well, and hopefully they’re ok,” he said.

“Although it’s always a proud moment to see your players doing a good job for their country, there’s always a bit of anxiety for their coach hoping they don’t pick up a knock.”

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott was also assessing the fitness of his players, with his club hoping they haven’t lost even more players.

They have already lost Carl Ablett, Ryan Bailey, Brett Delaney, Danny McGuire, Stevie Ward and Kallum Watkins to injury and face a re-arranged home clash against Widnes on Monday before making the trip to the Giants six days later.

And with Zak Hardaker, Ryan Hall, Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Jones-Buchanan in action for England last night and Joel Moon and Kylie Leuluai on duty for the Exiles, McDermott clearly doesn’t want any more bad injury news.
