HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS coach Paul Anderson has admitted having use of the Leeds Road Sports Barn has been a godsend.

His Super League squad has again been able to complete a full week’s training, despite the current big freeze which is gripping the whole country.

The John Smith’s Stadium chief knows that in an ideal world every training session would be held outdoors.

But he admits having a facility like the barn is the next best thing and has meant the minimum of disruption to his squad’s training schedule.

“We know how fortunate we are to have such a fantastic facility right on our doorstep,” said Anderson.

“This week it’s again come to our rescue and ensured we haven’t missed a session.

“Obviously, if we were outside on a full pitch it would have been better, but we are still able to get some quality work under our belts.

“As well as the barn, we’ve also got access to an outside 3G pitch if we need it, but that’s also not ideal in weather conditions like this. It becomes really slippy.

“But while we’ve got the barn, we certainly can’t complain.

“We’ve got a great relationship with Phil, Chris and Ian at the barn, and we can’t thank them enough for letting us have the facility at short notice. They’re great at pulling out all the stops for us.

“You can’t put a price on this sort of support.”

Anderson continues to have one anxious eye on the weather, with the John Smith’s Stadium chief eager for his team to get a game under their belt before the Super League XVIII opener at St Helens on Saturday, February 2.

“We’re pleased with the way our combinations are coming together, but there’s nothing better than putting those to the test in a game situation,” added Anderson.

“That’s why we want to get a game.

“It’ll tell us so much more about the way we’re progressing.”
