Paul Anderson is predicting a bright future for young Josh Johnson if he can build on his weekend performance in the South of France.

The 19-year-old’s performance off the bench was one of the few positives to come out of the Giants’ 30-14 Super League defeat at Catalan Dragons.

In just his fourth senior appearance, Oldham-born Johnson showed up well in the final 25 minutes, which his boss believes bodes well for the future.

“Josh deserves some credit,” said Anderson, who was bitterly disappointed with the overall team display in France.

“He did some of the things against Catalan that some of the more senior players should have been doing.

“He got off the line and tried to hit people, while he carried the ball with some venom.

“That’s all you can ask from a young kid, and I was pleased for him. There were some very good signs from him.”

Whether Johnson maintains his place for Sunday’s home clash against Warrington Wolves remaining to be seen.

He effectively went in for the Dragons game to replace fellow forward Michael Lawrence, who is now available again after serving a one-match ban at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Lawrence was found guilty of making dangerous contact in the previous match against Bradford Bulls and was given the suspension along with a £300 fine.
