BEATEN coach Paul Anderson is confident the Giants will reap big rewards from last night’s 26-0 Super League trial defeat at St Helens.

Huddersfield conceded five tries and failed to cross the whitewash, but the John Smith’s Stadium chief knows the experience will stand his side in good stead further down the track.

“We don’t need anyone to tell us that we were rusty because that is exactly what we expected,” said Anderson, who hopes to be able to include Jason Chan in next Sunday’s home trial clash with Widnes despite the forward having 10 stitches in a knee wound.

“But in the first 20 minutes, when we played a stronger squad on the night, it proved a very competitive contest and there were positive signs.

“Obviously when we started to change things around and introduce some of younger players, things started to become a little more difficult but everyone will benefit from the run out.”
