EORL CRABTREE has vowed to come back even stronger after suffering his injury ‘hammer blow’.

The 27-year-old Giants prop suffered ankle ligament damage during Friday’s 30-22 Super League defeat at St Helens and will be sidelined for up to a month.

That’s only half the length of time New Zealand back-rower David Fa’alogo will remain on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury in the same game.

But Crabtree admits his injury has still hit him hard.

“This has come as a massive hammer blow,” said the England prop.

“After missing out on getting the call to play for England the other week, I was desperate to finish this season as strongly as possible to prove I should have been picked.

“I was pleased with the way things went in the win at Bradford, but then I suffered my injury at Saints – the game I hoped I’d miss because of England duty!

“But there’s no point dwelling on it.

“When I look at Dave, for instance, I know it could be a lot worse for me. I think we’re all feeling for him at the moment.

“The key for me is to just get my head down, do exactly what the medical team tell me to do and try and get myself right again as quickly as possibly.

“Although I’ll miss the rest of June, I’ll still be back for the back end of the season when we hope to make a really big mark in the play-offs.”
