Paul Anderson is hoping the Huddersfield Giants are finding their best defensive form when it matters most.

Huddersfield have shipped in more points than any of the five sides above them in the Super League table – and that could ultimately cost them a place in the top four.

But Anderson was encouraged by a lot of what he saw in Sunday’s 28-14 home win over Widnes, and he’s determined to see his side build on this in the remaining three games of the regular season and throughout their play-off campaign.

“Apart from two very fixable lapses, I thought we looked good defensively all game against Widnes,” said Anderson.

“We were punished by making one mistake with an inside play on our tryline for one try and took a couple of dummies for the other.

“But that was that.

“Kev Brown has been in outstanding attacking form for them all year, but even though he threw the entire playbook at our right-side defence, we looked very solid.

“That gives us something very solid to build on in the weeks ahead.

“We know how important it is to improve every area of our game heading into the play-offs, and our defence in crucial to that process.”
