Huddersfield Giants half-back Jamie Ellis has joined Championship favourites Hull KR on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old has played 47 games and scored 16 tries for Huddersfield since arriving from Castleford Tigers for the start of the 2015 season, and signed a contract extension in May to keep him at the John Smith’s Stadium until the end of the 2019 Super League campaign.

But with the arrival of Ryan Brierley from Leigh Centurions two months later and Giants head coach Rick Stone keen to run with the Brierley-Danny Brough half-back combination in 2017, Ellis has been allowed to move across to the east coast.

Commenting on the move Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: “The offer from Hull Kingston Rovers was one which will guarantee Jamie a starting slot and allow ourselves some movement in the recruitment market, which we’d expect to come to fruition in the next few days.”
