HUDDERSFIELD Giants have bestowed the ultimate club honour of life membership on supporter Nancy Beaumont.

Nancy has been a ‘Fartowner’ all her life and in recent years has been the driving force behind the highly-successful Senior Giants group.

The life membership was handed to her as part of a surprise presentation at the latest Senior Giants meeting by club managing director Richard Thewlis, who was delighted to do the honours.

“Nancy is a wonderful lady whose achievements over, shall we say, a long number of years are unique at our club,” he said. “She worked for 26 years in the lottery office and was always seen for years at Fartown in the refreshment hut serving Bovrils and teas on those cold winter days.

“Perhaps things changed for many when we moved to our new stadium, but not for Nancy who set up the Senior Giants and remained at the Supporters Club midweek organising meetings and at the weekend at what was then the McAlpine Stadium.

“Her love of the game has taken her to Australia (four times), New Zealand (twice), Ireland and France as well as some of the lost names of the game Mansfield, Scarborough, Cardiff, Nottingham etc.

“It is an absolute tribute to her that around 80 now attend the free monthly meetings of the Senior Giants at the stadium and rarely can you attend a Giants game or function where she’s not present and still helps many to sort transport out to away games.

“Her support and voluntary work for the club is hugely appreciated by us all and it is now her privilege and honour to be made a life member of our club.”

Nancy joins Mick Murphy, Billy Thompson MBE, Neil Shuttleworth and Ida Rothery as Life Members of Huddersfield Giants.

Nancy is pictured receiving her award from Richard and was so moved that she was unable to respond to the toast of congratulations by all in the room.
