It's proving a busy time for new Huddersfield Giants head coach Rick Stone.

As well as preparing his side for tomorrow’s Middle 8s opener at Salford Red Devils, the Australian spent Thursday night watching the Under 19s suffer a 26-16 Academy defeat at Castleford Tigers and will today travel to Post Office Road to watch the Featherstone Rovers v Leeds Rhinos clash,

With the Giants hosting former coach Jon Sharp’s Rovers next Sunday, it was a trip Stone believes is important to make.

The new Huddersfield boss also felt it was important to travel to Castleford’s Mend-A-Hose Jungle to learn more about the young and emerging talent at his disposal – although he will have been disappointed to have seen them fail to secure a fifth successive victory, particularly after getting off to the best possible start.

The Giants were soon 10-0 ahead after tries from prop Ben Harley and winger Alex Young and an Izaac Farrell conversion.

But by half-time, the Tigers had clawed their way back to 10-6 and took the start of the second half by storm to charge into a 12-point lead.

Substitute Billy Hayes gave the Giants late hope with his side’s third try to reduce the gap to six points, but Castleford quickly responded to seal the visitors’ fate.
