Shaun Lunt is desperate to prove he’s still one of Super League’s best hookers – by inspiring the Huddersfield Giants to more top-flight success.

The 27-year-old was at the height of his powers in 2013 when the Giants lifted the Super League Leaders Shield after finishing top for the first time in 81 years.

His individual efforts earned him the honour of the Super League Dream Team hooker.

But after missing around half of last season with a broken leg and then a torn calf, Lunt is determined to put his career firmly back on track, with a strong performance in Sunday’s home opener against Hull FC a must.

“Last season couldn’t have been more frustrating, both for me or the team,” said Lunt, despite the Giants still managing a third-place finish.

“It was an awful feeling being sat in the stands and unable to help my mates on the field when things weren’t going our way.

“I know injuries are part and parcel of the game, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.

“But you work and train so hard to be out there doing your best for the team, and that’s what I hope I’ll now be able to do throughout this season.

“I feel good ahead of the Hull game, and I hope I can kick-on, get back to my best and help the Giants achieve even more success in 2015.

“If I can re-discover my 2013 form and we’re able to play to our full potential, we know we’re capable of winning even more silverware.”
