Huddersfield Giants will start their pre-season clash at Hull KR as strong as possible.

That’s head coach Paul Anderson’s plan as he looks to unleash his senior stars on the Robins for former Giants winger David Hodgson’s testimonial clash at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Sunday (3.00).

Apart from props Craig Huby (broken arm) and Eorl Crabtree (he is being held back for the following Saturday’s home trial date with Catalans Dragons), it’ll be a full-strength Giants squad.

That means debuts for big Australian NRL signings, hooker Ryan Hinchcliffe and prop Sam Rapira, and a return to action of hooker/half-back Kyle Wood for his first game since suffering a broken foot against Catalans Dragons.

With the postponement of Sunday’s planned opening warm-up clash at Halifax, Anderson is looking at including a couple of extra young players in his weekend squad to give them a much-needed run-out.

But the John Smith’s Stadium chief has made it clear the starting line-up will be powerful.

“We’ll start strong and so will Hull KR,” confirmed Anderson.

“It should be a good test for both sides and everyone feels the time is now right to start playing.

Because the Halifax game was called off, we may give one or two of the younger blokes a bit of a run later in the game.

“But we do intend to give the senior side a fair bit of time to work on their combinations, particularly as we’ve got a new hooker and prop ready to go.”
