LEROY CUDJOE is ready to prove his future could be in the centres.

The 22-year-old former Newsome Panther starred at full-back throughout his junior career and has played primarily on the wing for the Giants in the past 18 months, including last season’s Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

But Cudjoe will line up again at centre against Crusaders at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday, despite having produced one of his best performances of the season deputising for regular full-back Brett Hodgson in the 38-10 Super League win against the Wrexham-based club at the Racecourse Ground in April.

And Cudjoe has revealed he’s more than happy to go along with the switch.

“I’ve always said I see my long-term future at full-back, but I have to admit I’m enjoying myself in the centres,” said the former England Academy international.

“Nathan Brown has spoken to me a lot about the role I’m playing at the club and he can definitely see me playing permanently as a centre.

“I’ve swapped about a bit this year, but I’m really enjoying it and I’m now at the stage where I can’t decide whether I prefer playing centre or full-back.

"Jammer (Jamahl Lolesi) has been a massive help in helping me make the switch. He’s played in the centre at Test level and he’s been fantastic passing on advice to me, whether that’s been in training or during a game."

Cudjoe’s second-minute try in the 44-18 Super League defeat at Castleford was his 17th of the season.

But he knows returning to winning way against the Crusaders this weekend is far more important than adding to his try tally and overhauling winger David Hodgson at the top of the Giants charts.

"That performance at Castleford was a massive disappointment, and we’ve got to put that right on Sunday," he added.

"If we play to our best we know we should beat Crusaders, and we know we’re going to have to. It’s only a couple of weeks ago they won at Leeds and had a big home win over Bradford.

"So we know this is going to be another test for us.

"When we played them at Wrexham it was a very tough game and we were in a real battle that day. The final scoreline may have looked one-sided in our favour, but they really fight to earn everything they can and everyone in the squad knows they need to work hard to improve."
