Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson expects to see more from Jordan Cox now he’s got his first Super League XX game under his belt.

The 22-year-old moved to Huddersfield on a month’s loan from Hull KR and made his debut off the bench in Sunday’s 11-8 home defeat to St Helens.

It was Cox’s first game of the season after undergoing a major shoulder reconstruction last term.

But with a first game under his belt and an extra week’s training, the Giants chief will be looking for Cox to build on his 20-minute spell against Saints, starting against Catalans Dragons at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday.

“He’s obviously a big fella who carries the ball strongly,” said Anderson. “But you could tell at the weekend he was underdone and hadn’t played this year.

“He showed some good things and some not-so-good things, but at least we now know a lot more about him and what he can do. There are some frailties in his game we’ve been able to see for ourselves and we can work on that now.

“He didn‘t come back on against Saints for a second spell because we needed more mobile blokes out there when we were chasing the game, and that’s why Anthony Mullally didn’t come back on either.

“But we’ll be looking for him to build up his minutes on the field over the next few weeks.”

Cox and his new teammates all emerged injury-free from the St Helens game, with centre Joe Wardle back in contention for the Catalans game (after a suspension).
