Paul Anderson is hoping the Giants have ironed-out their right-side defensive frailties at just the right time.

Huddersfield maintained fourth spot in the Super 8s table with their hard-fought 24-12 home triumph over Catalans Dragons and will move above third-placed St Helens with a victory at Langtree Park tomorrow night (8.00).

Although the Giants put themselves under pressure by producing a stuttering attacking display in last Friday’s wet conditions, they were able to keep the French at bay with a big defensive effort.

That was highlighted by the work produced by Jermaine McGillvary, Leroy Cudjoe, Jack Hughes and Jamie Ellis to keep Dragons dangerman and potential Super League Man of Steel Zeb Taia quiet from start to finish.

And Anderson is hoping this is a taste of things to come.

I thought we defended very, very well the other night”, said Anderson, whose side is feeling in upbeat mood ahead of tomorrow’s trip to face a St Helens side still smarting from last Friday’s shock 32-22 home defeat to Hull FC.

“In players like Carney, Dureau, Taia and Whitehead, they pose a massive attacking threat, but we handled it really well.

“Catalans targeted our right edge, which is something we gave them a reason to do, but Jerry, Leroy, Jack and Jamie stood up to everything they threw at them, apart from just one poor read in the first half.

“It’s going to take another big defensive effort to keep St Helens at bay tomorrow night, but everyone showed the other night they can do it.”
