GIANTS’ star Australian forward Luke O’Donnell is set to miss the rest of the season.

The former Kangaroo Test ace injured his left knee in the second half of last night’s 19-6 Super League defeat by St Helens at the Stobart Stadium in Widnes.

“Luke has had it,” confirmed coach Nathan Brown.

“He has damaged the cruciate ligaments and, obviously, it’s unfortunate because he is a very important player for us.

“But he has been a bit up and down with injuries this season and we’ve just got to work with the situation. We have people who can come into his place.”

Half back Danny Brough also suffered a muscle injury 10 minutes from time and Brown added: “We are not 100% sure exactly what the problem is or how long it will take to get him back.”

On the performance, Brown was pleased with his side’s fighting qualities in an intense battle for third place in the table.

“The result was not great, our attack was not great but it was still one of the best performances we have produced in four or five weeks,” said Brown, whose club have not won at Saints in the League since 1978.

“Aside from a couple of individual mistakes, it was our best defensive display for some time.”
